What’s the difference between a “written” CD and a “stamped” CD?
CD’s can be copied in two ways:
Written (also “burned” or “duplicated”) or stamped (“replicated”).

DUPLICATION
- Written CDs
- Produced in-house at Vertigo
- Orders under 1,000 CDs
- 1-3 working days

When Vertigo “writes” or “burns” a CD, we use an in-house duplicator to transfer information from your master to blank recordable CDs. This process produces a final product that contains the exact information that is on your master.

This process is generally used for small CD runs of less than 500 that require a rapid turnaround time of just a few days.
REPLICATION
- Stamped CDs
- Outsourced to a top-level CD manufacturing plant
- Orders over 1,000 CDs
- 10-15 working days

A “stamped” CD is sent by Vertigo to a plant and replicated to meet stringent industry standards. This process generally takes 10 to 15 working days to complete, but creates a CD that is commercial quality or “retail ready.” This process includes a protective layer not found on “written” CD’s. (While all CD’s should be handled with care, stamped CD’s can generally withstand prolonged use and occasional dings or light scratches.)

This process is more economical than writing them in-house when producing more than 500 CDs at a time.

Which is right for me?
We generally recommend the most cost-effective process for each customer based on the size of the job. Whichever process is used, Vertigo will replicate CD’s that contain the same information as your master.

If you have questions or other factors we should consider, with your order, just let us know. Your total satisfaction is our first priority.
